Youth Week 2011
At least 3 Kiwi kids have taken their own lives after incidents of cyberbullying since 2002, we think it’s time kids had a voice and support when they are having issues online.
Featuring the showcase of our “YouTube Booth”, Sweet As Social Media and the Massey Community House are inviting kids and adults alike to come together at the House (385 Don Buck Rd) & Triangle Park to share their stories & help us spread our message on Friday the 27th of May between 330pm and 630pm.
There will be competitions, prizes and entertainment throughout the afternoon which as a celebration of youth, is aimed to encompass of the potential & possibilities of youth and aimed to provide some entertainment for all ages.
Sweet As Social Media is a recently established charitable trust, with the purpose of drawing attention to the issue of cyberbullying. Prompting the launch of the viral Be Nice Online campaign, they have called on the local & “online” communities & businesses to support the launch & come together to do something positive for the youth of the Massey community and showcase the benefits & opportunities afforded to them by the internet.
“So whether it’s online or off, speak to others with respect, don’t say things you don’t mean and treat people the way you would like to be treated.”
The afternoon will kick off at 3.30pm and finish up around 6.30pm as it is getting dark with organizers and Sweet As Social Media project facilitators hanging around to answer any questions until the early evening.
